Each season brings a flurry of outdoor activity to Hayward, Wisconsin, about 100 miles north of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, as anglers, bicyclists, and hikers interact with a scenic landscape that includes gigantic pine trees and abundant wildlife. The scene at the local quilt shop, River’s Edge Antiques & Quilt Loft, owned by Gail and Mike Grassel, is every bit as picturesque.
Inside the store, fabric and notions reside among treasures of the past, including stoneware, furniture, and log cabin decor. The charmed combination of shop wares is a reflection of the complementary interests of Gail, quilting, and Mike, antiques.
“The more you look, the more you see,” Gail says. “Customers love the antiques because they give nonquilters an opportunity to shop, too.”
