MARY H. K. CHOI The writer flew to London to interview FKA Twigs for “Portrait of an Artist.” I’d most want FKA Twigs’s: “Guileless intellectual curiosity.” My dream job: “Whatever will take me to space. I’ll probably wind up running a prison cafeteria on a spaceship.” I can’t get through the day without: “An antisocial amount of tea and Snapchat.” ANETA PAJAK The model was photographed under the California sun for “The New Frontier.” Best beauty tip I learned on set: “Hydrated skin is beautiful.” My favorite moisturizer: “Weleda Skin Food.” My hometown: “A small village in Poland called Wandzinów.” My secret hobby: “I grew up in a family of mechanics, so my passion is cars.” ALASDAIR McLELLAN The photographer shot FKA Twigs in London for “Portrait of an Artist.”…
FKA Twigs’s first Allure cover shoot, photographed by Alasdair McLellan, took place at Spring Studios in London. 1 Despite the 8:30 a.m. call time, Twigs arrived early and energized, having already swung by the gym before arriving at the studio. 2 After flipping through racks of ballet-inspired Givenchy bodysuits and Calvin Klein slip dresses, Twigs hopped into the makeup chair and chatted with hairstylist Duffy—a fellow Brit—about local youth culture. 3 The singer blasted Siouxsie and the Banshees and lip-synched “I’m Real” by Jennifer Lopez between shots. But as soon as she stepped in front of the camera, the soundtrack was switched back to classical music. 4 Twigs was in no rush to leave after the last photo was taken. She hung out with the crew and chatted about her…
A few months ago, I shattered my fibula at a rock-climbing gym. Several days later, I had surgery to fuse the bone back together, which left me with an impressive six-inch metal rod and two screws in my ankle. I was a relatively active person before that—in fact, I had just completed week 11 of Kayla Itsines’s ass-kicking Bikini Body Guide and was feeling pretty great about my burpees and lie-down push-ups. But suddenly my only exercise was typing on my laptop and hobbling around my house on crutches. After a couple of weeks, I went to my surgeon’s office to have the cast removed. I watched anxiously as he sliced through the plaster and slowly unwrapped the layers of gauze underneath. What I saw was something I didn’t recognize…

Chloé Perrin’s childhood was pure fashion fantasy. Her mother, Sally, was an American model (you’ve probably seen her Calvin Klein and Nordstrom ads from the ’90s), and her father, Michel, was the CEO of the family’s leather-goods business, Perrin Paris. Although she was born in Seattle, Perrin moved to Paris when she was four—and she never really left. In 2014, she became the company’s creative director (the fifth generation of her family to join the brand), and one of her early mandates was to “modernize and sharpen our designs.” Perrin Paris now has a full-fledged handbag line, but Perrin still puts a premium on tradition. “I always have gloves in my purse,” she says. “They stop me from texting while I’m walking— they’ve probably saved my life a couple of…
