The global economic order is rapidly being reshaped. Following the inauguration of the Trump administration’s second term, uncertainty in the trade and investment environment is increasing, with the ‘Global South’ emerging as a new axis of cooperation. Emerging economies such as ASEAN, India, Latin America, Africa, and Russia are expanding their influence based on resources and population, drawing attention as a new outlet for the Korean economy. The Center for Emerging Economy Studies, Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP) is focusing on finding practical cooperation measures with these regions. Particularly, ASEAN, where economic integration is accelerating, is providing considerable opportunities for Korean SMEs. Together with Sungil Kwak, Executive Director of the Center for Emerging Economy Studies, we explore Korea’s strategies in navigating this complex global landscape.
