IPG’s Campbell Ewald has named a new CEO and at the same time appointed the first female creative leader in its 105-year history. President Kevin Wertz replaced former CEO Jim Palmer, who was fired in January over his handling of a racist-email controversy first reported by Adweek’s AgencySpy blog. It also promoted executive creative director Jo Shoesmith to global CCO. She joined the agency’s Los Angeles office in August 2015 after 15 years with Leo Burnett in her native Australia and Chicago, where she worked on accounts like Allstate and Delta Faucets. She succeeds Mark Simon, who retires after 16 years at the agency. BET In an effort to retain its lead in an increasingly crowded African-American TV market, BET is pushing harder into scripted programming with five new projects and a pair of movies, including the new anthology series Tales, produced in partnership with Tidal. The network has also inked deals with Snapchat and WhoSay and is about to relaunch its site and app. MTV New president Sean Atkins revealed his plan to reverse MTV’s flagging ratings by putting the music back into the network that used to be known as Music Television and relaunching two of its most iconic series: MTV Unplugged and Cribs.
