They connect with the negatively charged particles—like dirt—and form heavy clumps, which drop down to the bottom of the basin. In May, the nonprofit Environment Colorado Research & Policy Center released some troubling findings from its study of 16 Front Range bodies of water: Microplastics were present in all of them. Wildfires don’t just wreak havoc on our landscapes and our livelihoods.
