WHAT IS OSTEOARTHRITIS?
Osteoarthritis (OA) is a degenerative joint disease that affects the entire joint. This includes the bone, cartilage, ligaments, fat, and tissues lining the joint. OA can cause cartilage to deteriorate, alter the shape of the bone, and cause inflammation. Thus, resulting in pain, stiffness, and loss of mobility.
Osteoarthritis generally occurs on the knees, with a prevalence of 365 million affected worldwide. However, it may also occur on the hip, hand, lower back, and neck. Although OA is commonly associated with ageing, other factors may also cause OA to develop in younger individuals.
WHO IS AFFECTED BY OSTEOARTHRITIS?
