Fans of Fawlty Towers are mourning the loss of Prunella Scales, whose family confirmed the beloved actress, who played John Cleese’s on-screen wife Sybil Fawlty, passed away on October 27 at the age of 93.
“Our darling mother, Prunella Scales, died peacefully at home in London yesterday,” her two sons, Samuel and Joseph West, told PA News. “Although dementia forced her retirement from a remarkable acting career of nearly 70 years, she continued to live at home.
“Her last days were comfortable, contented and surrounded by love,” they added of the actress, who was watching Fawlty Towers the day before she died.
Cleese, 86, led the tributes. “Scene after scene, she was absolutely perfect,” he said.
