IT’S PREDICTED THAT 24 million new cars will be bought in China this year – eight million more than in the whole of Europe. Yet despite the kaleidoscope of Chinese brands being able to win many of those sales from European,Asian and American firms, you don’t see any Changan or Dongfeng cars on the road in the UK. Now, though, Lynk&Co is ready to start the influx.
Owned by China’s biggest car maker, Geely, which also presides over Lotus and Volvo, Lynk&Co made its debut at the 2017 Shanghai motor show with a futuristic family SUV, aptly named the 01.This shares many parts, including its underpinnings, with the Volvo XC40, a former What Car? Car of the Year. As a starting point, then, you couldn’t get much better.
