BECAUSE when Hurricane Sandy hit the New York area, in October 2012, Knicks center (and N.B.A. champion and Olympic gold medalist) Tyson Chandler and his wife, Kimberly, helped organize relief efforts for the devastated community of Far Rockaway. BECAUSE the Chandlers, with the help of their church, Hillsong NYC, took diapers, formula, batteries, clothing, shoes, food, and cleaning supplies to Far Rockaway’s Action Center as part of the Rebound 4 Rockaway/Rebound for New York program. BECAUSE this partnership helped the Action Center meet the needs of up to 1,000 community residents—many of whom live below the poverty line.
