A Long Range Patrol (LRP) mission encompasses a wide operational duration. It usually means 96-plus hours outside the wire before Return to Base (RTB) or resupply. It also means you’re going to be living off the land to a large extent for this amount of time. This type of mission is going to require more gear to be carried by individuals than any other type of military operation. In some lucky instances we have motor transport to help us cover vast distances. Conventional wisdom tells us that to successfully conceal carry undetected, it’s best to pack a smaller gun over a larger one. That sounds simple enough, but that statement isn’t really all that precise. High Bar Homestead is a 250-acre ranch property owned by Magpul executive Drake Clark. There are 20 ranges on-site ranging from 10 feet to 2,000 yards. A Direct Action mission usually refers to a small-scale raid or short-duration strike. It can encompass a broad range of objectives, but is usually carried out in hostile-controlled areas and involves offensive actions to destroy targets, capture enemy personnel, recover assets, or rescue hostages. The time on target is usually measured in minutes or hours at most. DA missions can be single strikes or daisy-chained into multiple hits on multiple targets by the same team over the course of a day or night. Sometimes, unplanned secondary and tertiary DA missions can occur due to time-sensitive, actionable intelligence gained at the first target location. Ensuring the perfect amount of traction on your firearm’s control surfaces can be a tedious process. Although there are plenty of grip-enhancing options such as polymer stippling, metal checkering, and stick-on grip tape, the amount of traction you end up with can vary from cheese-grater-like to almost non-existent. If you’re willing to get a little arts-and-craftsy, we’ll show you a simple method of traction enhancement that competition shooters and gunsmiths have trusted for years.
