THE FORSYTES NEW MONDAY, 9PM, 5 DRAMA Over a century after they were written by English author John Galsworthy, The Forsyte Saga novels still capture the imagination with their sweeping portrayal of the tangled lives of a fictional wealthy family in Victorian London. Now, 5’s star-spangled six-part drama The Forsytes, penned by acclaimed screenwriter Debbie Horsfield, brings the legendary clan to life again and offers a fresh take on the books, which were previously adapted for a groundbreaking 1967 BBC2 series starring Eric Porter, Nyree Dawn Porter and Susan Hampshire – who also takes on a different role in the new version (see panel, right) – and ITV’s 2002 reworking featuring Damian Lewis and Gina McKee. Hollyoaks’ crossover with Brookside begins in Wednesday’s episode, and picks up in the hour-long edition of Hollyoaks Later airing that evening (10.05pm).
