For staunch lovers of the Lake District, sometimes it’s hard to truly explain the appeal of hillwalking in Wales. Too wet, too grey, not enough nice pubs... these are just a clutch of common grumbles. Everyone knows it’s rough and ridgey, dramatic and slightly dangerous, but otherwise they’re blissfully ignorant to everything that makes it such a special place to explore on foot.
What they really need to know is that – unless you want to head into deepest, darkest Scotland – this is probably the adventure capital of Britain. Jagged mountains with knife-edge arétes, green valleys with thundering waterfalls, sparkling llyns, thick forests, silent summits, and terrain that feels like it was geographically sculpted with walking boots in mind.
