was recently fortunate enough to take part in the Atlantic Coast Challenge, which was a 78-mile, three-stage event along the South West Coast Path. The organisers, VOTWO, showed it is possible, albeit with some extra effort, to stage Covid-safe events.
As we appreciate, there is so much more to event organisation than having runners turn up at the start line – in this case, they had to arrange registration, accommodation, handing out fuel for the run, checkpoints and transport. Yet, with some extra reliance on modern technology, such as good digital communication rather than traditional briefings, and GPS tracking technology, it went down smoothly as far as I’m concerned.
However, with so many new factors to consider, it is not surprising that organisers are only tentatively dipping their toes into…
