Peter de Savary 1944-2022
Peter de Savary, who has died aged 78, was a rumbustious, cigar-chomping businessman – “an opportunist, an enthusiast, a little bit of a gypsy” in his own words. A serial entrepreneur, he was worth an estimated £100m by the time he hit his early-40s; he lost a fortune in the 1990s; and was back in the rich lists by the 2000s. The full extent of his wealth was never clear, said The Times, owing to his assets being concealed within a web of companies.
