It is one of the world’s great road trips – a 142-mile drive through the Canadian Rockies, and some of the most rugged scenery on Earth. And with good hotels and plenty to do on the way, the journey along Alberta’s Icefield Parkway is worth stretching out over several days, says Leslie Woit in The Daily Telegraph. Running from the “sleepy” railway town of Jasper to Lake Louise, the Parkway passes through two national parks, Jasper and Banff, which have a combined area the size of Wales, and affords views of more than 100 glaciers. Equally exciting is the wildlife to be seen – which includes elk, deer, bear, moose, caribou, bighorn sheep, coyotes, wolves, beavers, pine martens, lynx, porcupines, cougars, snowshoe hares and wolverines.
