Covering nearly 5,000 miles across 12 stages, and involving cars, motorbikes and trucks, the Dakar Rally is one of the world’s toughest and most demanding races.
This year, the famous event was held in Saudi Arabia from 5 to 17 January, and 342 vehicles raced at high speeds across rocky deserts with huge sand dunes and bumpy tracks. Three quarters of the race took place on sand. For many years the race was held in Europe and Africa, but from 2009 to 2019, the event was staged in South America.
