Keepers count the animals each morning as part of their daily routine. However, once a year they carry out a more official add-up, known as the annual stock-take, which takes a week to complete. Keepers must tick off every mammal, bird, reptile, amphibian and invertebrate from a list of more than 700 species. Larger animals, such as our Asiatic lions, are easy to count, but the insects are a huge challenge!
