Violent crime exists across the country, but gangsterism is generally geographically concentrated in particular suburbs and in hot spots. Evidence suggests that problem-oriented policing of hot spots can be effective, but with a dysfunctional policing service, our hope of a better life is continually dashed.
It is with trepidation that citizens scan the news every day, expecting to see people, especially young people, maimed or killed in gang crossfire or in drive-by shootings.
The fact is, the government has failed to live up to its constitutional obligation to protect the citizens of this country, province and city. Clearly, this government has failed us.
