WHEN coach Pitso Mosimane, SA football’s most decorated coach of all time, resigned from Mamelodi Sundowns last September, billionaire club owner Patrice Motsepe took a calculated gamble by handing over the baton to a coaching triumvirate.
During his eight-year tenure, Mosimane had scaled the heights of success by lifting 11 trophies, including five league titles and Africa’s most prized club accolade, the CAF’s Champions League crown. Against this background, many thought that Motsepe should have opted for an experienced coach, an achiever, and perhaps one who had been internationally acclaimed.
