The deal would expand its PGM operations to the Eastern Limb of the PGM-rich Bushveld Complex. “To date, Jubilee’s PGM operational footprint has been largely limited to the Western Limb of the mineral-rich Bushveld Complex, a single area of the two main PGM areas in South Africa. This was revealed by Gauteng Health MEC Nomathemba Mokgethi in a written reply to questions by the DA’s health spokesperson Jack Bloom in the Gauteng Legislature. Mokgethi said those affected people are those suffering from breast cancer – 300; cervix 146; head and neck 18 and prostate cancer 700. According to Mokgethi, there is a recurrent chemotherapy drug shortage delaying patient treatment as well as an insufficient number of nursing staff. The past three days have seen frustrated residents of Dube, Orlando, White City, Mapetla, Pimville and Zondi blocking roads with tyres and rocks in the evenings and in the mornings in protest over a series of power outages that have left some without power for days. In some parts of the township, motorists had to pay R10 in order for their cars to pass through areas where there were protests. Mkhize had a criminal case laid against him at the Cape Town police station yesterday and another will be laid in Gauteng today. DA MP Siviwe Gwarube opened the case, saying the mounting evidence against Mkhize regarding the contract awarded to Digital Vibes had to be investigated by the police. The R150 million communications contract was irregularly awarded, an investigation by the Health Department has noted. WITH the cold front expected to continue over Joburg the weekend, the City of Joburg emergency services says the South African Weather Service has confirmed that most parts of Gauteng will experience significant drops in temperature. This means that most residents will be using more heating and lighting appliances. THE Joburg International Transport Interchange (JITI), one of the City of Joburg’s largest infrastructure developments, is finally reaching completion after many stops and starts since 2014. At 50 000m², the state-of-the-art interchange is an international long-distance and cross-border transport hub in the CBD. The Johannesburg Development Agency (JDA), on behalf of the city’s transport department, has been undertaking the JITI’s construction, which has now reached practical completion and will launch at end of the month. It was scheduled for completion in 2018 but tenders were cancelled due to non-performance. I have had the opportunity of reading the report from the auditor-general of both these entities within the Department of Labour. Both entities have been failing their audit for many, many years. A video circulated on social media shows the teenage boy lying on the floor being kicked in the stomach by the adult male. Several adults, including the school principal, are also seen in the room. Mbokazi was 19-years-old and studying at the Inanda seminary in Durban when she fell sick, and became hysterical. Medical doctors were unable to help Mbokazi who continued to suffer until she found out that the ancestors wanted her to become a sangoma. So she followed her calling but did not give up on her academic dreams. Now at the age of 62 , the sangoma has achieved her goal of obtaining a doctorate. This bill, which seeks to amend the Equality Act, contains provisions that will override and trample on our constitutional rights to freedom of religion, belief and opinion, freedom of expression and freedom of association. It will empower the state to tell people and institutions of faith what to believe (including what they may and may not say, and may and may not do) and how to run their internal affairs. In its assessment of the adverse effects brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic, public policy organisation Brooks cited the most pressing challenge that continues to bedevil countries across the world, including South Africa, and that is reliable electricity. The organisation emphatically stated that communities can’t fight pandemics without electric power, arguing that reliable power “is critical for effective responses to Covid-19 and other diseases”. The governor of Lebanon’s central bank reassured depositors yesterday that it was not bankrupt and that people’s deposits were safe and would be returned soon, after reversing a decision to stop withdrawals that triggered street protests. Angry Lebanese took to the streets late on Wednesday over a central bank announcement that withdrawals from dollar deposits at a fixed rate – much lower than on the informal market though higher than the official peg – would be halted. Lebanese banks have locked depositors out of their dollar accounts and blocked transfers abroad. Rand Water has undertaken a pre- isolation shutdown at the Eikenhof pumping station to prepare for the replacement of the G34/Q2 isolation valve. This follows water supply issues in the Hurst Hill/Brixton/Mayfair areas which have left residents and businesses without water for up to five days at a time. During this pre-isolation shutdown, a power failure was experienced at the Vereeniging water treatment plant which affected supply to the Hursthill system. The Hursthill system has, following the shutdown and restoration, battled to recover to acceptable reservoir levels. The system supplies high-lying areas that have historically been vulnerable to fluctuating bulk water supply during high-demand seasons. ON Wednesday, my wife, 78, was admitted to Netcare Mulbarton Hospital with Covid-19 pneumonia. Over the past many years, we have had many admissions from our family to various Netcare Units.
