Thomas De Quincey’s Confessions of an English Opium-Eater describes the author’s dependence on laudanum2 , an alcoholic solution containing opium, and its effects on his physical and mental states. Britain will see its first coronation in nearly seventy years this month with the crowning of His Majesty King Charles III.
