Fossora
Björk
(ONE LITTLE INDEPENDENT, 2022)
Björk has been defining and re-inventing an experimental art pop world for 30 years now, and her 10th record, Fossora, sees us in an optimistic, magical realm of mushrooms and connection to earth. Putting her toes in the soil, she explains this record started with a feeling and unlike 2015’s Vulnicura, this is “not a grief record.” Although there are elements of loss, this is record that creates a wood-wide-web, with Icelandic folk, industrial beats, cor anglais, clarinets and Björk’s iconic voice weaving through and sitting above. This is a record that explores the maternal, and whether it’s Björk’s mother, her daughter or mother nature, Björk places herself as Gaia in this sonic world.
