LA Roadster Show 2016 The LA Roadster club will be holding their 52nd Show & Swap on June 18-19, 2016 which of course is Father’s Day weekend. The event takes place from 7am-5pm on Saturday and 7am-4pm on Sunday at the Fairplex in Pomona, California. Billed as the “Greatest Roadster Show on Earth” the grand event also includes a swap meet, trade show, roadster exhibition and car show which is open to pre-1975 cars and trucks. Front end alignment is a necessary evil not voodoo or smoke and mirrors. We will attempt to clarify the subject and give you the means to check your alignment at home. The first order of business is to clarify several aspects of this discussion. The majority of our street rods/hot rods are early Fords with a solid front axle. As time progressed the cart grew larger and with it the ability to transport more products with a single vehicle. Bruce Geisler was there, and he was one of the driving forces in shaping the hot rod history we read about today. His first car was a ’30 Ford coupe when he was too young to drive. He went from there to a high school driver ’47 Chevy sedan. In 1957 he bought used, one of six ’56 factory SR1 Corvettes from Grotwald Chevrolet in Larchwood, Iowa for $4,000.00. There probably aren’t many hot rodders in the U.S. who have not run across the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile. Yes, we’re talking about the giant hot dog which travels the highways of America and brings a smile to everyone who crosses its path. I had the good fortune of spotting it in Southern Arizona in mid-January as it toured the local supermarkets before heading west for California. The drivers/ambassadors or “Hot Doggers” as they are known were Molly “Molly Mac ‘n Cheese Molly” Ward of Iowa and Juan “Juan of a kind dog” of Texas. Molly and Juan were selected in a national “Hot Doggers” competition which began in 1988 and hires recently graduated college students who applied for the one year gig. The “LA Roadsters 50th Anniversary Hiboy” 1932 Ford Roadster was a collaborative effort between the L.A. Roadsters, several parts suppliers/ manufacturers and the Alex Xydias Center for Automotive Arts - “AXC”. After many meetings and discussions, it was decided that the finished product should be a fairly accurate tribute to one the most famous ’32 Ford hiboys ever built, the McGee/ Scritchfield Roadster. The tribute car would be as accurate as possible while providing some modern upgrades that would enhance comfort, safety and overall drivability. To ensure the tribute car had the right look, Build Manager Jim Karls and LA Roadster President Doyle Gammel invested many hours at the Petersen Museum where they went over every detail of the original roadster making notes and taking measurements of things like ride…

“Tim found parts at local swap meets and of course he could always look through Bert’s warehouse and yard” Tim Cunningham of Westminster, Colorado had a plan to build a Ford roadster which would look like something his grandfather would have built before the World War ll. In fact, a look which would have been a “hot rod” before the term “hot rod” was born. Terry Campbell of Mead, CO spent 25 years as a Colorado State Patrol officer protecting the people traveling the state’s highways. About seven years ago, shortly after he retired he sat down with noted Colorado rod builder Gary Vahling to discuss his plans for a hot rod. A few weeks had gone by when he received a call from Vahling who gave him a lead on a 1930 Ford coupe located in nearby Lakewood. Once Terry laid eyes on the coupe he bought it and the solid body would become the start of a very unique hot rod. Charly’s Garage in Mesa, Arizona held their annual Customer Appreciation Day on February 20th under sunny skies and 80-degree temps.
