Whether you want to start working out more, try something new, or simply use up your stash, we chose projects that inspire those goals. Unlike many other designs, the quilted arch looks very different depending on the height of your border and width of the motif. Getting Started About our Patterns We recommend that you read all of the instructions before starting a project and that you cut and sew one block before cutting all of your fabric. Using a rotary cutter, mat and an acrylic ruler, cut the shape to the size indicated in the cutting list. Pressing tabs indicate the direction to press the seam allowances. Our patterns list finished block sizes, which are typically ½" smaller than unfinished block sizes because they do not include seam allowances. Geese on the Fly I love flying geese units. And this block contains nothing but! Inspired by photos taken of an antique quilt top on one of my teaching travels, I knew I would take this old block and use my more modern methods of pulling strips from my own Scrap User’s System and using my Essential Triangle Tool, and easily find myself cutting the quarter-square “goose” triangles and half-square “wing” triangles from scrap 2½" strips. I find working with specialty rulers and strips to be my go-to method. Traditional rotary cutting and flying geese methods are also given below for those who don’t have access to this ruler.
