The first thing I do when I arrive anywhere I plan to be for a little while, is create a sanctuary space, a den. Peaceful, safe, it’s an escape for the mind and imagination, but also a pint-sized home. When I was younger, my nook was often a windowsill or underneath an enormous tree canopy, light peeking through the branches. My essentials have barely changed; a blanket, music, snacks, books, scrapbooks, a small bottle of scent and magazines. If I’m on the move, it’s whatever I can fit in my backpack, plus space for potential gems. I’ve always loved to make a cocoon wherever I am, from beach to bunk bed (always the lower bunk to attach a sarong curtain, of course!). I love piling the car up and road…
