Nadia Khan and Janine Moodley THE shutters on some stores in the KwaDukuza (Stanger) CBD remain closed, but other businesses resumed operations on Monday.
Most of the stores in King Shaka Street were looted and some were damaged during the unrest.
Yusuf Nakooda, the owner of Giorgio, which specialises in men’s fashion and schoolwear, said: “My store was targeted first. The looters did not stop until they took everything. They broke all the windows and the shop doors. They did not leave behind a single men’s item. It was only the schoolwear, which was tucked in the back, that was not taken.”
Nakooda said despite the loss, he had no option but to reopen.
“If we did not reopen, three generations would be impacted, including my elderly parents, children, wife…
