Learning From Harrison Ford
I really enjoyed reading Marc Lee’s blog post, “Harrison Ford’s Accident Teaches Important Lessons” [www.planeandpilotmag.com/blog]. What I learned from Mr. Ford’s crash is that we should practice more engine failures after takeoff. We practice, practice and practice engine failure while in flight, but not enough when we are below 500 feet after takeoff. —Clive Rudd Fernandez
The PT-22 has very tight operating parameters, and killed many a student pilot in the military in WWII and in the civilian operation. Bob Hoover is absolutely correct, you fly to crash. The PT-22 is a fun airplane—the Southern California Ryan Club will testify to that, and my family was Ryan owners. The airplane is unforgiving at low altitude under 90 mph. Great article, thank you. —Marilynn Laird
