April is a delightful time to be in Palm Beach. The summer weather has not yet set in, but the frenetic pace of the season has slowed enough to let us enjoy the simple pleasures of living in this corner of paradise. And though our social calendars are a little lighter, there is still plenty to do around town. BUONASERA, NEGRON The Negroni might be the best libation to enjoy on a cool, crisp April evening. According to legend, it was invented at a Florence café in 1919 when Count Camillo Negroni asked the bartender to kick up his favorite cocktail, the Americano (a blend of Campari, sweet vermouth and club soda). The barman responded by reaching for the gin, and history was made. The modern Negroni combines equal parts of gin, Campari and sweet vermouth, garnished with an orange peel—a deceptively simple process, but as usual the quality of the ingredients is paramount.
