Rei Uzawa has teamed up with vets to invent a wearable fan for pets. This small, light, battery-operated fan is attached to a mesh outfit that blows air around an animal’s body. Rei is the president of a maternity clothing maker called Sweet Mommy, and she came up with this idea when her chihuahua couldn’t endure going for walks in the extreme heat. This month in history 60 years ago! OCT 1 1962 On this day, 29-year-old James Meredith became the first African American to be accepted at the University of Mississippi. He had been rejected because he was black but then took his case to the U.S. Supreme Court, which ruled in his favour. He arrived to register on September 20 but was blocked from entering by the Mississippi Governor. When he returned, angry mobs formed and there were riots where two people were killed and many injured. President John F. Kennedy then sent Federal Marshals to accompany him and he was enrolled. Bear Island Sometimes things are not quite as bad as we are led to believe. We are all familiar with heartbreaking pictures of polar bears standing on melting icefloes in these times of climate change. The Space Needle The Space Needle is an observation tower in the centre of the city of Seattle, in Washington State, in northwest USA. Edward E. Carlson was chairman of the World’s Fair, which was to be held in Seattle in 1962. The theme for the fair was ‘The Age of Space’. Carlson travelled a lot, and he was impressed with the TV Tower in Stuttgart when he visited the German city. He thought a similar tower would look great in Seattle and impress the visitors to the World’s Fair. Special Passengers for Artemis I First planned to launch in August, the Artemis I unmanned test flight to the Moon is now set for sometime in October. This Space Launch System (SLS) will carry the Orion test capsule around the Moon and back to earth in a six-week journey. The success of this mission will lead the way to future astronaut visits to the Moon on Artemis II, beginning in 2024. Potter Replaces Tuchel Graham Potter is the new head coach of Chelsea after the club’s new owners fired Thomas Tuchel. Chelsea sacked Tuchel the morning after their defeat to Dinamo Zagreb in the UEFA Champions League, a competition the German coach won with the Blues last year. Tuchel had won three out of six Premier League games this season, losing once with two draws. The club moved fast to appoint a replacement, approaching then- Brighton boss Potter on the same day that Tuchel departed.
