Tom Hanks’ tumultuous relationship with his son, Chet, is well documented – but now his daughter, Elizabeth, has spoken out about her childhood being blighted by “confusion, deprivation and violence”.
The 42-year-old writer, known as E.A. Hanks, has published a memoir that details her tough upbringing with her late mother, Samantha Lewes. Tom, 68, and Samantha were married for five years and had two children, E.A. and son Colin, before divorcing in 1987.
As a child, E.A. lived with her mum and had regular visits with Tom, until, E.A. claims, Samantha moved them from Los Angeles to Sacramento without notice. “Tom is devastated,” a source tells New Idea. “He’s feeling a lot of guilt that he wasn’t there for E.A.”
Samantha died in 2002 aged 49 from cancer.…
