What we eat has a big impact on our heart health. The world’s biggest killer is ischaemic heart disease, responsible for 13 per cent of deaths. In Australia, heart disease is the number one cause of death. In 2021, 10 per cent of all deaths were a result of coronary heart disease and 25 per cent due to cardiovascular disease, with diet one of many conditioning factors. Other risk factors are health status, smoking, lifestyle choices, level of exercise, cholesterol levels, blood pressure, stress, diabetes and obesity.
