MAJOR pharmaceutical companies, GlaxoSmithKline, Pfizer and Shionogi have developed a wonderful new HIV treatment. It is a two-month-injection, as effective as daily doses of ARVs in suppressing the virus. The injection is made from a combination of two drugs, cabotegravir and rilpivirine. They are the first of several long-acting antiretroviral HIV medicines in development. They each block HIV from replicating but in different ways.
