Five months after the Phillip Island World Supersport round, the results have been adjusted following confirmation of one team’s technical infringement. Following a report submitted by the FIM Superbike World Championship Technical Director to the FIM World Superbike Stewards on 30 July, all three riders from the MV Agusta Reparto Corse team were stripped of their results from the race. The Technical Director reported that some engines belonging to the MV Agusta Reparto Corse team were unsealed without prior permission after the Australian round. This is an infringement of the 2020 FIM regulations for the category; specifically, article 2.3.10 in general and paragraph d. Marc Marquez will not defend his MotoGP title in 2020, following news that the time to recover from the broken arm he suffered at Jerez will now take much longer than originally predicted. The six-time premier class champion broke his right humerus in a fall at MotoGP’s opening round on 19 July and gamely returned to the circuit for the following round a week later, but withdrew before the race. Since then, Marquez broke the plate holding the fracture together, requiring further surgery. Ruled out for the Czech round on 9 August, it was originally thought that Marquez may return for the first round of the San Marino double-header on 13 September. America’s first motorcycle company and America’s first registered distillery seems like a natural union, but it took until 2016 for Indian Motorcycle, founded in 1902, and Jack Daniel’s, registered in 1866, to first collaborate. The initial partnership, ostensibly to celebrate two great American brands, but to officially mark the 150th Anniversary of Jack Daniel’s, saw Indian release specially branded and finished Chief Vintage and Springfield models as limited editions. That first collaboration was such a success (all units sold out within eight hours) that it’s been continued every year since. How often is it that an adventure bike tyre provides that perfect blend between onroad manners and off-road performance? The Metzeler Karoo Street makes such a claim and, based on my recent experience with these tyres, I’m inclined to agree with them. Indian Motorcycle are now offering Apple CarPlay on 2020-model Chieftain, Roadmaster and Challenger models equipped with the 7-inch Ride Command System. The integration of Apple CarPlay connectivity into these models is part of what Indian says is their mission to further enhance the riding experience for Indian owners and deliver industry-leading technology so riders can stay connected while out on the road. Supported on MY20 Chieftain, Roadmaster and Challenger models with navigation, Apple CarPlay allows iPhone users to access Apple Music, Maps, send messages with Siri and more via the bike’s Ride Command 7-inch screen and a supported Bluetooth headset (not included). The Motul FIM Superbike World Championship has been cut from thirteen rounds to eight and will finish its shortened 2020 season in Estoril. Following the release of a new calendar on 18 August, the addition of Estoril comes at the expense of the TBC round at Misano which was the provisional season finale. Although cancelled for 2020, Misano has secured a contract to host WSBK for the next three years. Its cancellation is – hopefully - the last on the 2020 calendar that, due to the coronavirus outbreak, has also seen rounds in Qatar, Germany, the Netherlands, Great Britain, Italy and Argentina cancelled as Spain and Portugal become the “hubs” for international motorcycle competition. The closure of a unique automotive museum presented a rare opportunity to purchase a range of collectable cars and bikes this past July. The Binalong Motor Museum, located in the rural NSW town of the same name, was unique insofar as it was purpose built as a museum to display the collections of its two founders, John Fitzpatrick and Stuart Saunders. The space also served as a workshop for the founders’ restoration projects. When Fitzpatrick relocated, Saunders bought out his share and the museum became his personal showcase, but when Saunders decided to close the museum earlier this year, he also decided to sell the bulk of his collection, selecting Donington Auctions to handle the clearance. The Autodromo Internacional do Algarve, aka Portimao, will host the fifteenth and final round of this year’s FIM Grand Prix World Championship after the FIM and Dorna confirmed on 10 August that Portugal will wrap up the coronavirusimpacted 2020 MotoGP season. To be held on 20-22 November, the finale will be the first ever MotoGP round at Portimao and the first time since 2012 that MotoGP has raced in Portugal. While the 1934 Harley Model R was the top-selling motorcycle, an earlier example ran it close for the honour. Following the release of Harley’s first Model J in 1914, the JE, introduced in 1924, was defined by its race-spec motor with alloy pistons. Combined with a three-speed transmission, the performance from this package made the Model JE a favourite with police forces and the US Postal Service, as well as civilian riders. When he was the head of Radical Ducati, the Bologna marque was the sole source of his builds, but since founding XTR Pepo, all sorts of bikes have served as the base unit for his creations.
