What was to be the final Honda Snowy Ride for the Steven Walter Children’s Cancer Foundation (SWCCF) this year has been cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions. But, rather than deny riders one last chance to ride the Snowy Mountains region in support of a great cause, the organisers have rescheduled the actual ride for 2021, with a “virtual Snowy Ride” to take its place this year. “Like so many other large-scale events, there was so much to consider in terms of protecting everyone’s health and safety but still providing the enjoyment of the Snowy Ride,” explained Sue Walter, CEO of SWCCF. “We feel that the Virtual Ride enables everyone the opportunity to share their enjoyment of motorcycle riding in the safest way possible. Vespa has united with French fashion label Christian Dior to create an exclusive, limited-edition version of their 946 scooter. The tie-in seems tenuous but comes from the fact both brands were launched in 1946 and have become icons of style in their respective fields. Vespa elaborates to say the two brands are linked by “an unwavering desire to inspire a new, bright and creative vision of the world”. The special edition scooter was designed by Maria Grazia Chiuri, Creative Director of Dior women’s collections, and is finished in white with gold trim, which extends to the wheels and mirrors. The Motul FIM Superbike World Championship (WSBK) has confirmed a restart of its 2020 season, releasing a new provisional calendar and announcing a major change to the schedule for the support categories. Only the opening round at Phillip Island had been completed before the coronavirus pandemic brought an end to racing globally, but following discussions with the FIM, various governments, circuit owners, paddock personnel and Dorna’s WSBK Organisation, racing is now ready to resume. Under a provisional calendar released on 19 June, WSBK competition will recommence at Jerez on 31 July, before moving to Portimao, Aragon, Catalunya and Magny-Cours. This European section of the revised WSBK championship will be followed by TBC rounds at Villicum in Argentina, then Misano, Donington Park, Assen and Losail. Shannons’ first ever online-only timed auction saw all consigned motorcycles find new owners, with a 1969 Velocette Sportsman the top seller. Held from 20 May to 3 June, the online-only auction was a Shannons first, necessitated by social distancing and public gathering restrictions caused by the coronavirus pandemic. Including garagenalia, automobilia and heritage licence plates, over 100 lots were consigned, including seven motorcycles. These ranged from a tiny 1978 Honda CT70 mini trail to a big and bold 1960 Harley-Davidson FL DuoGlide. The other consignments were British classics, with BSA, Triumph, Norton and Velocette represented. There’s a saying that projects are never completed, just abandoned. If you’ve had a project bike yourself, you’ll probably agree.
