Ducati has unveiled a new colour scheme for their Monster 1200 S for 2020. The ‘black on black’ livery combines gloss and matte black finishes to the frame, tank, exhaust silencers and wheels, with contrasting red detailing on the spokes and red contrast stitching on the seat. Entering its 27th year on the market, the latest version of the Monster 1200 is powered by the familiar 1198cc Testastretta L-Twin, delivering 108kW at 9250rpm and 124Nm at 7750rpm. A Ride by Wire throttle for the liquidcooled engine is standard, with other standard features including Cornering ABS, Traction Control, Wheelie Control, Riding Mode and Power Mode. After a fractious recent history that’s seen the event cancelled in 2017 and 2019, the Australian Four Day Enduro (A4DE) is hoping to get back on track with a schedule recently released for both the 2020 and 2021 events. In September, Motorcycling Australia announced that Erica in Victoria’s Gippsland region will be the location for the 2020 A4DE, which will be held on 6-9 May. Erica last hosted the Four Day in 1978, while the most recent Victorian A4DE was at Mansfield in 2016. Gold Coast Harley-Davidson has won the Australian and New Zealand leg of this year’s Battle of the Kings custom motorcycle build-off competition and is hoping to make the grand finale at EICMA in Milan this November, where the Global Custom King will be crowned. The local leg of Battle of the Kings (BotK) attracted 26 Harley-Davidson dealerships to build a custom Harley to one of three themes – Dirt, Race or Chop. Each build was subject to a strict set of rules, including use of Harley-Davidson Genuine Parts and Accessories, and spending no more than half the bike’s retail price on the build. Two wildcard riders have been confirmed for the Moto3 class at this year’s Pramac Generac Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix at Phillip Island. An ‘Anzac’ effort for 2019 has seen one rider selected from Australia and the other from New Zealand. The Aussie side of the Anzac ledger is represented by Yanni Shaw, who is something of a recent convert to racing, having first competed as a 20-year-old in 2015. The M900 was labelled the Monster (Il Mostro in Italian), reportedly because of its Frankenstein-like birth, which saw the model borrow parts from other bikes in the Ducati line-up. A Brisbane-based company focussed on “first and last mile” goods transportation has recently received approval from the Australian Road Vehicle Safety authority to run electric-powered delivery trikes on Queensland roads. Distributed by e-Motion Concepts, the trikes are available in two configurations – CT-KARGO and CT-KUBE. Both feature hub-mounted electric motors and lithium batteries, with a top speed of 45km/h and driving range of up to 100km between charges. Compact dimensions, including width of less than a metre for both models, make them ideal for inner-city deliveries, according to e-Motion Concepts. The vehicles are manufactured by RAP SEV, a Chinese company specialising in intelligent electric vehicles for export markets. The start time for this year’s Pramac Generac Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix at Phillip Island has been officially changed. Since 2008, the race has got underway at 4:00 PM, mainly to suit European television schedules, but in recent years, riders have expressed concerns that colder ambient and track temperatures at this time of the day are a safety risk, especially when the fickle Phillip Island weather is already cool. Shortly after last year’s Australian GP, discussions between Dorna and the Australian Grand Prix Corporation (AGPC) posited a new start time of 3:00 PM for the MotoGP race, with the preceding Moto2 and Moto3 races also shuffled back one hour in the race day schedule.
