Well, I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but our August issue is our 150th. That’s 150 times the Inside Out team has said, “Yep, this is our favourite home in the issue – let’s put it on the cover.” The 150th time we’ve read every page, checked every price, lovingly chosen every image, knowing it was the very best we could do this month. MJP Studio ‘Wedge’ coat stand DESIGNER: Matt Pearson Adelaide-based designer/maker Matt is passionate about timber and woodworking. “I specialise in timber, especially American timbers, which have amazing visual and working characteristics,” he says. “I also like to bring in other materials, such as steel, brass and leather.” As such, his striking Wedge coat stand features an American oak frame on a powder-coated steel base. Choosing the right mirror for your place depends on what you need: a decorative element to suit your style, somewhere to do your make-up, or a space-enlarging magic trick. First, mirrors can change your perception of a space. Q We’re building a new home and we’re stuck on the roof. Not literally, but we can’t decide whether to go with tiles or steel. What factors do we need to consider? Sharon, via email Your decision really comes down to personal taste, but there are a few things to know. Tiles, which are most commonly made from terracotta or concrete, need a certain pitch to be effective, so if the angle of your roof is less than about 20 degrees, you’ll need to use metal. SLOW-ROASTED LAMB SHOULDER WITH POMEGRANATE MOLASSES GLAZE SERVES 4 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil 3 garlic cloves, crushed 1 tsp ground cumin 1 tsp ground ginger 2 tsp salt ⅓ cup pomegranate molasses, plus extra, to serve 2 onions, cut into rings 1.8kg lamb shoulder (bone in) 500ml (2 cups) chicken stock 1. Preheat oven to 160°C. Combine the olive oil, garlic, spices, salt and 2 tablespoons of molasses. Spread the onion over the base of a roasting pan. Top with the lamb and rub over the glaze. 2. Our neighbours have just started a major renovation, which is going to take at least a year. We’re on friendly terms, but ours are terrace houses that share a party wall.
