She and her husband have placed among the top shuffleboard players in the country at tournaments, and the Anderson-based woodworker is the go-to source for high-end, heirloom shuffleboard tables. She began refinishing them in the 1980s. “They came out of basements or bars, covered with mold or cigarette-smoke residue,” she says. “I decided I could make new ones that look like furniture.” By 1997, she was designing and building tables from scratch. But when she and her husband, Tom, purchased their Fort Benjamin Harrison home in December 2011, the third-floor hallway was a thicket of hand-painted vines and glued-on ivy. MY BOYFRIEND grew up in a suburb surrounded by asphalt, and has never quite understood my love for the water. Most famous for his rainbow-haired Bob Dylan poster and the “I ♥ NY” logo (and, locally, for the colorful Federal Building mural), the New York designer seemed to make everything a little more fun. For a traveling exhibit called Toys by Artists, Glaser fashioned these acrylic-like blocks filled with ball bearings and sand, giving them weight to pile in unexpected ways.
