Mustang racers recognize Mike Murillo as one of the early pioneers of heads-up 5.0L Mustang drag racing, and his Star Car was one of the more famous, and dominant, cars of the ’90s. But Mike recently sold the Star Car to build the Star Car II, a radical twin-turbo’d, big-block Ford-powered Outlaw 10.5 racer. Kotzur Racing Engines built the 541ci monster, and Mike’s shop, Murillo Motorsports (www.murillomotorsports.com), set up the rearmounted 88mm Precision turbos. The car is the ex-Kevin Marsh/Tommy Z/Chuck Samuel Pro 5.0 ride that Mike has owned since about 2003, and it has run mid-7s with a turbocharged small-block but has been completely redone.
