DELAYED euthanasia and lack of biosecurity remain the biggest welfare concerns affecting UK horses, according to experts.
Researchers from the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies asked vets, charities including World Horse Welfare and the British Horse Society (BHS), and trainers, among others, to rank what they thought were the most prevalent concerns.

Lack of biosecurity and disease surveillance was ranked the top concern affecting the population. Delayed euthanasia was the most concerning for individuals, and second on the population list. Other issues in both included lack of owner understanding of welfare needs, lack of recognition of pain, obesity, and worm burdens.
