Celebrating sun time! Midsummer’s day is the longest day of summer and this year in the Southern Hemisphere, the summer solstice is on 21 December at 06:19. Before clocks, people relied on the passage of the sun through the sky to tell the time. A beautiful angel Jolanda van Staden of Kempton Park writes I’d love to know more about this wooden angel. During WW2, my great-grandfather traded it for a pair of shoes in what was then Ceylon (now Sri Lanka). It is made of yellowwood, measures 600mm H x 750mm W x 15mm D, and has no stamps or markings.
