The cricket world is in mourning after the shock death last week of Australian batsman Philip Hughes. The 25-year-old suffered catastrophic injuries when he was struck on the neck by an 80mph ball. PD JAMES Acclaimed novelist dies aged 94 Britain’s “first lady of crime”, author PD James, has died at her Oxford home at the age of 94. Famous for her crime thrillers featuring poetry-writing policeman Adam Dalgliesh, she recently revealed she was planning one last novel, saying she would only stop writing “when I come to a stop too”. The daughter of a civil servant, Phyllis Dorothy James was born in Oxford in 1920 and worked for the Inland Revenue and the NHS before having her first novel, Cover Her Face, published when she was 42.
