Just four months after stepping down from the Dutch throne to allow her son Willem-Alexander become her country’s new king, Princess Beatrix of the Netherlands (above, far right) bows her head in sorrow as her second son, Prince Friso, 44 (top left), is laid to rest in the village of Lage Vuursche.
Friso’s widow Princess Mabel (above, left) was also among the mourners, as were his brothers Willem-Alexander and Constantijn, who walked solemnly behind their mother.
Friso’s two daughters, Luana, eight, and seven-year-old Zaria, clung tightly to Mabel’s and Beatrix’s hands, with two of Willem-Alexander’s three girls, Amalia and Alexia, following behind them.
