Control In this mode two teams fight for control of points scattered across the map, similar to the mode of the same name in Overwatch. The twist here is that as well as losing territory, teams can also fail a round by running out of respawn tickets. If a team wins three rounds of Control, they win the game. Domination Domination has been a fan favourite mode since Modern Warfare, and it’s back in Black Ops 4. It’s similar to Control, but the objective is to capture as many points as possible and keep hold of them until the end of the match. Domination hasn’t changed much since the early days of Call Of Duty multiplayer. Hardpoint Another returning mode, but a little different this time. As in previous games…

The core idea in SpyParty is excellent. There’s a fantastic feeling of tension as you try to steal things, plant bugs, and contact agents. From a design point of view, everything is beautifully crafted to enable human players to hide in plain sight, squeaking in illicit actions while hoping no-one’s looking. That, in turn, makes being a sniper a literal laser-focused exercise in observation. Playing either side is fraught and enjoyable. However, there’s only one mode, and at £19.49 it’s costly. If this were closer to the £7-8 mark it would be a must-buy, but currently the dev either needs to add more content or lower the price to something better fitting the amount of fun the game can provide.…

26 Pillars Of Eternity II has easily 50 hours of content in it – but speedrunner Onin has managed to complete it in just 26 minutes, using some clever tricks. 61/2 Destiny 2 clan Redeem was the first to beat the latest expansion’s raid, Wrath Of The Machine, achieving it in just six and a half hours. $60m According to Variety, that’s the estimated budget of a Monster Hunter movie going into production this September. 29% The rise in net income for Ubisoft over the last financial year, boosted by Far Cry 5 and Assassin’s Creed Origins.…

Topping the leaderboard this issue XBOX FOR ALL Microsoft gets a round of applause from us for releasing the Xbox Adaptive Controller. The firm worked with charity Special Effect, which creates bespoke controllers for gamers with limited mobility, to produce the customisable controller, which has large programmable buttons and can be connected to external devices like switches and joysticks to enable more people to enjoy gaming. NEXT BIG THING If No Man’s Sky being a lone person’s sky was putting you off the game, the Next update will sort that for you. Format PC Developer Phobia Game Studio ETA 2019 Web bit.ly/gmcarrion Its makers might describe it as “a reverse horror game”, but that’s not to say that Carrion isn’t horrifying; rather, you’re the one doing the scaring. Games in which you play the bad guy aren’t uncommon, but ‘guy’ doesn’t quite cover who – or rather, what – you’re in control of here. It’s Venom crossed with a butcher’s floor; the stringiest bits of The Thing; a squishy, fleshy bag of snaking, intestinal tendrils. Short version: yuk. So yes, Carrion is pretty gross. And if, like us, you have a slightly twisted sense of humour, it’s also very funny. Along with the regular cookie-cutter zombies, State Of Decay 2 challenges you with stronger variants called Freaks, each with their own means of ending your survivors’ lives. Screamers do exactly what you expect, alerting a whole mob of the undead to your position with their ear-piercing screams. Bloaters, as the name implies, are bulging, decomposing husks that explode with noxious gas if you venture near, while Ferals scutter around on all fours with exceptional speed. Last, but certainly not least, we have Juggernauts: near-unstoppable tanks with incredible strength and surprising quickness.…

Deadfire is a story-driven game, and Obsidian lays the narrative on thick. But it never feels too heavy, which is mainly because the story’s told in so many ways, from dialogue to cutscenes and choose-your-own-adventure-style picture books. 1 The game often transforms into a story book, asking you to pick the next step from a list of options. 2 After key plot points, you’ll parlay with the gods to unwrap the events of the past few hours. 3 If you like dialogue, your luck is in, because Deadfire is packed with some of the best you’ll find anywhere. 4 The cutscenes aren’t the most detailed, but the game is pretty enough to carry them off. 5 When you’re exploring, your party members will launch into amusing tirades, often aimed at…

Retro challenges return to the series with this game, though the art style is less 16-bit this time around, resembling a Flash game more than anything. (Are Flash games retro now? Oh jeez, we’re so old…) Anyway, you can unlock retro challenges by finding hidden VHS tapes located in certain levels. Each one is short and sweet (something you can’t say about the main stages) and mixes up the Runner formula by giving you direct control of CommanderVideo’s movement. You probably won’t spend a lot of time playing them, but they’re a decent distraction that mixes in some simple, traditional platforming.…

Although completely to the detriment of your team, it’s just too tempting to pitch the ball directly in line with the opposing batter. Doing so will often knock them comedically off their feet, whether it’s a body shot or you’re socking them straight in the noggin’. Even better, though, is when you line up a shot that rebounds straight back in the pitcher’s direction. This sends them ragdolling backwards, rendering them motionless on the floor, and, more often than not, sending for a stretcher. City Of Brass is a story in the book One Thousand And One Nights, a collection of Persian folk tales compiled in Arabic during the Islamic Golden Age. ROBIN’S PICK Dreams I feel like I finally have a good sense of what this game actually is, now, after five years of vagueness and lofty presentations. Basically, it’s LittleBigPlanet, but with unimaginably more possibilities. Their filters deplete over time, and gaffer tape will sort out any bullet holes. “I would describe it as a very slow-paced, almost hypnotic, farming game where the gameplay elements are basically chores that you do around your farm: you look after and milk your goats, you make cheese, and then you trade cheese with the wandering merchant for food for your goats. So it’s kind of a cycle, and then you have various other optional things to do around the farm, but that’s basically the gameplay mechanics. Then you have the narrative, in which everybody has dispersed from this once-bustling village, including your family – so you’re completely alone out here in the wilderness, with your only point of contact being this merchant.
