You worked as a binman and a hod-carrier before turning professional aged 21. How much did those experiences shape you? I told my careers officer at school that I wanted to be a footballer or a postman. She ended up getting me a job knocking down Llandudno gun sites, which had been built to prevent German invasion during the war. You were a ball girl at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. How did that happen? A goalkeeper coach called Mick Payne, who I’d met at a Bob Wilson camp, asked me to go to a camp he does every year in Alabama.
