4-H Clubs, as we know them today, began on January 15, 1902, in Springfield Township, Ohio. The superintendent of schools at the time, Albert Belmont Graham, organized around thirty boys and girls in the basement of the county courthouse, intending to share information and learn practical skills such as harvesting corn, planting gardens, testing soil samples, tying knots, and identifying wildlife.
