NEWS IN BRIEF GOBLIN WORKS GARAGE RETURNS The team at Goblin Works will be returning to UK screens in January, with more of their unique take on restoration and customisation. THE MAN, THE MYTH, THE LEGEND Ahmed began his career with a Ford apprenticeship, working up to a Technical Supervisor at a Ford dealership by the late ’80’s. As engines were increasingly being endowed with electronic management systems, he began experimenting with ECUs in his spare time, teaching himself how they work and devising improvements. Ahmed’s experiments with old ECUs and software showed great results, and as a result the then head of Motorsport at Ford, Peter Ashcroft, head-hunted him as a consultant Engines and Electronics Engineer. Ashcroft had a special project under development. As this was 1990, it turned out to be the original WRC programme. This was the big time for Ahmed. IN THE SPOTLIGHT IAN HILL FALCON XR6 Well, you don’t see a lot of these in the UK do you? This Australian-market model, the FG Falcon, was the final generation produced before Ford stopped building them and began importing the Mustang as a replacement. As you can see, the fabled XR badge didn’t disappear from all markets, and in XR6 form the Falcon sports a 4.0-litre straight-six. Ian’s owned the car since nearly-new, buying it when he lived in Brisbane and shipping it to the UK when he moved three years ago. IN THE SPOTLIGHT JACK TURNER FIESTA ZETEC S Jack s 30th Anniversary Edition Fiesta is no.1116/1200, and the chequered roof is a factory item. It s a little-known fact that the first 400 Anniversary Editions were yellow, the second 400 were green, and the final 400 were red, and they all had that distinctive roof. Jack’s example is beautifully looked after too – it’s just ticked over 110k miles, and he’s been keeping it super-tidy to show it off at the shows; you may have spotted it at Ford Fair 2019. FROM THE ARCHIVES We delve through the image archives to bring you some of the most memorable moments in Ford’s history… This mouth-watering supply of 224bhp YBD RS500 engines has just been delivered from Cosworth – of Wellingborough – to Tickford where all conversions from regular Sierra Cosworth to homologationspecial RS500 model took place. This is approximately one day’s supply of engines – another truck load would be delivered the next day, and the next day, and so on, between June and the end of July 1987. Team Fast Ford had awesome fun on track in the budget Four Hours of Lochgelly endurance race… and it all cost less than £500!
