If you swear by the Keto diet, then you may think wine is completely off the menu. And – since living Keto means extremely low to no carbs – you’re probably right. But for special occasions, look out for dry, low-alcohol wines (less than 13,5 percent) with low residual sugar (RS). RS isn’t listed on the bottle, but here are some broad strokes to guide you:
Heavier reds (Shiraz, Pinotage) are usually higher in alcohol, and whites often have more RS to balance the acidity. Instead, opt for light, dry reds – which usually have lower alcohol content and less RS (like Nebbiolo, Verdot, Pinot Noir and some blends) – and Brut, Extra Brut and Brut Nature MCCs, which are all lower in RS.
