When the architect Frank Gehry debuted his design for the Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris in 2014, he began an association with the French luxury house that, like his buildings, has taken some surprising turns. WATCH PALACE INTRIGUE From the Eiffel Tower to the Seine, this summer’s Olympics will feature landmarks all over Paris. But it’s hard to beat the setting for fencing and tae kwon do: the city’s newly restored Grand Palais, the Beaux Arts confection of steel, stone, and glass built for the 1900 Paris Exposition. François Chatillon, the architect tasked with the renovation, spent four years getting it picture perfect. “We had 1,100 workers on the project,” he says. While only the nave and main staircase will be visible during the Games, a full restoration is underway. So when ELLE DECOR A-List architect Hannes Peer first saw his client’s second-floor apartment in Milan’s center, it felt like a rare opportunity. Its latest collaboration, with Australian couturiere Tamara Ralph, presents a stylish departure in aesthetics from the original, blending high fashion with haute horology. With his British accent, Oxford pedigree, and penchant for prints, designer Peter Dunham has been bringing his Englishman-in-L.A. style to the West Coast since he moved to California in 1998. But it turns out that the ELLE DECOR A-List interior designer actually grew up in Paris, the son of a French father and a British mother. So when Dunham recently acquired an apartment in the City of Light, it was a homecoming of sorts. The 300-square-foot pied-à-terre—two small former maid’s rooms combined into one—overlooks the Seine in the city’s sixth arrondissement. Romanian-born, New York–based interior designer Mica Ertegun passed away last year at 97. But the legacy of her influential firm, MAC II, cofounded in 1967 with socialite Chessy Rayner, persists. When ELLE DECOR visited her in the early ’90s at home in Bodrum, Turkey, she rhapsodized about the destination’s way of life. “The rhythm is slower and more graceful, and the house is absolutely peaceful,” she said. She shared the seaside retreat with her husband, Ahmet, the legendary music mogul, a native of Turkey who had always dreamed of owning property on the Aegean coast.
