Compared to having to deal with oily skin, dry skin doesn’t seem like as much of a problem—until it does. Dry skin tends to be sensitive, there’s an uncomfortable tightness to it, and is often followed by redness, cracks and itchiness. The main factor, quite obviously, is lack of moisture. While oily skin is caused by excessive sebum production, dry skin is the exact opposite: The body simply doesn’t produce enough of its natural oils. Other contributing factors include the weather, various health ailments and so forth. In the long run, dry skin might lead to wrinkles, the appearance of fine lines, loose skin and other signs of aging.
