The overland back roads between Edinburgh and Berwick, over the Lammermuir Hills, are fabulous riding. You’ll hardly see a car, but you’ll see hills, valleys, moortops and the stark white hulk of Bass Rock in the Firth of Forth.
The Tour of Britain came this way in 2021, but they passed the route’s best feature: a stop-off in the village of Gifford at Lanterne Rouge, often rated Scotland’s top cycle cafe since it set up six years ago.
